How to change a headlight on an 08 ford escape?
i need to know how to get the globe off... how to change the light... where to get a light... basically i need a step by step instruction on how to do everything to change my light and get it but to functioning like before :) How to change a headlight on an 08 ford escape?
It probably would be under warranty, but if for some reason that's not the case or not practical;
1. Make sure that the headlamp control is in the OFF position.
2. Open the hood.
3. Reach over the front bolster.
4. Remove the bulb by turning it counterclockwise and then pulling it straight out.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb.
6. Connect the electrical connector on the new bulb.
7. Insert the glass end of the new bulb into the headlamp assembly.
When the grooves in the plastic base are aligned, turn the new bulb clockwise to install.
Handle a halogen headlamp bulb carefully and keep out of children檚 reach. Grasp the bulb only by its plastic base and do not touch the glass. The oil from your hand could cause the bulb to break the next time the headlamps are operated.

You need to just pull is off and you will see the light bulb. You will need a little flat head screw driver to remove the wire harness from the bulb. All you need is to lift the clip holding the plug onto the bulb and pull it away from each other. I am not sure what your Escape use, but Ford like to use %26quot;90007%26quot; bulb. You will have to look at the old bulb or take it to your auto parts store.
I would also recommend replace both at the same time. The chances of you having to do this all the time is pretty high if you only do one size.
When you do get a new bulb, do not touch the glass with your fingers! You will need to use a clean towel to hold it. The oil on your finger will ruined the bulb.

You can find plenty of kits on eBay or online, but converting your headlights to HID does take some elbow grease. There's a fair amount of assembly and cable-tying to do, and you've got to have a good place to mount your ballasts so that they'll stay nice and dry.
That being said, what you're talking about is swapping out halogen bulbs from a reflector assembly that was designed for halogen light output and replacing them with High Intensity Discharge Xenon bulbs, which produce a different kind of light that needs to be reflected differently than halogen light.
I have to ask that you do your fellow drivers on the road a favor and not do this conversion - the resultant glare from the improper reflection of the extra bright light can blind oncoming traffic even in a sedan or smaller vehicle, but installing these conversion kits on an SUV is really criminal. SUVs blind other vehicles enough as it is, just imagine that with twice the lighting power, plus the light is reflected in the wrong direction (ie. Up instead of down at the road!)
The alternative to blinding oncoming traffic is to adjust your headlights so that they are aiming as far down as possible, and that reduces your visibility to the point that having HIDs provides no benefit to you.
Please consider alternatives if all you're after is the look, (like halogen bulbs with a blue tint) as conversions are illegal and, in your case, potentially dangerous.

its actually really easy. all you have to do is pop the bulb out of its socket, its usually held in with a pressure ring that you just squeeze to re lease or twist out to unlock it, then you pull the bulb out of the socket and replace it then put the new bulb in the same way you took it out.

I'm not a car person, so I don't know much about all this. Excuse my ignorance. I like the whiter, bluer lights I see on some cars. How do I get that effect on my car? Are the bulbs a generic fit, or is it specific for the car? Is it as simple as replacing the bulb? Can it be done at Canadian Tire? Roughly how much would it cost? I appologize for all the questions, but I'm really useless when it comes to cars :-)

Hi, you can get some stock fit euro xenon bulbs ( all fancy words to say that they are brighter ) that you can pick up at canadian tire, just make sure you know the type of bulb you need. with those bulbs you won't get the %26quot; expensive car bright blinding %26quot; light, but they are brighter. if you do want a super bright glow. you'll need to buy a H.I.D (High Intensity Discharge) head light conversion kit. Now for that you will need someone who knows about mechanics. it's basically hooking the battery to the discharge box, and then from that to the H.I.D lights.
the lights are specially to be bright. You can get the H.I.D conversion kit for your car for about 120$ to 180$

screw that easy way i do it at nissan is to remove bumper, way easier, and you dont mess up bulb or hand trying to reach in small places, to remove just take all the snap clips of top of bumper i think there is 6 then remove the screw in splash shield and peel back fender liner reach up inside there is two 10 mm bolts on each corner of headlight remove those on each light, then pull bumper out and down and let hang, then there is 4 10 mm securing headlight, remove then pull out headlight and change bulb, its not hard like it sounds but im an exp nissan tech and i have the lift to work on with out scrpaing up bumper, so you might want to take to nissan, its not hard at all , the other way the guy before me said is another way i just hate doing it that way and do it my way, there is a recall on the headlights just to let you know, they burn out from a bad ground if you take it to nissan they will do recall and install two new bulbs included for free, you should call with your vin to c if your car has had that done yet,How to change a headlight bulb on a 2003 Nissan Altima.?
does one have to unplug the high voltage wires from module to light first? if other lights running lights, high beam are working does that mean it's not a module problem but a bulb problem?
I'll try and explain it, but if you still can't do it, go to www.altimas.net and search in the forum. It's not easy, on the passenger side bulb, remove your coolant reservoir. I believe it's 3 bolts. On the drivers side, I believe it's easier if you remove the top of your air box. (I have a cold air intake, so my whole air box assembly is gone) Once you have access to the white plastic cover, turn counterclockwise to remove the covers. Then the bulb is held in by a metal clip. If you look at it closely, you must push the clip towards the front of the car, then to the side, and the clip will release and you can then change the bulb. Then re-assemble...

Open hood. Look at back of headlamp for 2 clips that pull up (the clips don't come completely out). With the clips pulled up, pull out the lamp assembly from the car as far as the wires will reach.
Twist the lightbulb socket until it releases from the headlamp unit.
Now you can pull out the bad bulb from the socket and replace.

The bulb should screw out with a quarter turn and a pull.

For either the Headlamps or Front Park and Turn Signal Lamps
1. To remove the six plastic fasteners from the shield use a screwdriver to pull up the center of the fastener. Be careful not to break the fasteners that hold the shield in place.
2. Using a 13 mm socket, remove the two bolts from the headlamp. Pull the headlamp assembly up and toward the front of the vehicle to access the bulb assembly.

1. To remove the six plastic fasteners from the shield use a screwdriver to pull up the center of the fastener. Be careful not to break the fasteners that hold the shield in place.
2. Using a 13 mm socket, remove the two bolts from the headlamp. Pull the headlamp assembly up and toward the front of the vehicle to access the bulb assembly.

If you're changing the entire headlight, you have to take off the grille (the thing on the front of the car with the toyota symbol on it), usually has 3 screws you unscrew to do that. Then, you have to unscrew the nut for the parking lights (they're the lights next to the headlights on the outside), and slide those off. There should be some nuts where you removed the parking lights, unscrew those, and unscrew anything else attached to the headlights. They pop right off when there's no more screws attached, and you put the new ones in where the old ones were.
If you cant do it yourself, find someone who is mechanically inclined, it takes 20 minutes to do. It's very straight forward, I have a 94 corolla, and while they're different model years it should be the same concept.

Just forget about what the owner's manual says. the book doesn't tell the exact instructions(I threw mine out, I also own a 03 lancer)you have to do it yourself. Now, stick your hand in there. there's a clip that is connected to headlight, unclip it from the headlight. twist(don't pull it hard like what others are telling you) the piece that holds the bulb to the left and you'll feel the click and pull it out. this should take you about 5 minutes to complete the job.Hope this helps.

The right side can be done by removing the radiator over flow tank and get a small phillips screwdriver and remove one and loosen the other screw that hold a little spring bail on. Then the bulb holder comes out and the new bulb is put in. I haven't had the drivers side go out yet (02 Altima) I'm sure they have'nt changed such a brilliant design?????

The whole lighting unit needs to be out for this. The lens are kept to the headlight housing by several metal clamps that can be pried off with a flathead screwdriver.

There are two bolts, 10mm each. Take off these and pull the light straight off. Just plug everything back in when you get your new light. If it is an HID Halo type light, you will need to do some wiring.

On the back of the headlight, turn the base of the light bulb holder and then pull it out. The wires on them should be removable on the base of the bulbs. To remove the bulb from the base turn the bulb and it should be easy to oull out then replace the bulb using the same process. Make sure you wipe the light bulb face so that you leave no finger prints on them, some bulb will burn out with prints on them. Bulbs will cost you less than $10, too. so for about $20, you can have someone do it for you and not get all messed up.
It's not too complicated to change a headlamp. It's just kinda hard. I know it sounds like it's same thing, but this is why. Usually the bulb is held into place by a mount with a ring that turns to lock it in. It's just a big FREAKIN' PAIN to try and turn that plastic ring, with trying to fit your hands and fingers into the small space. If it's the driver side headlamp, sometimes you've got to take out battery so you've got room to work. It's not complicated, just a hassle.
Once you've got the ring turned, you'll see how it unlocks it. It doesn't unscrew like a pop bottle cap. Then you pull out the bulb. Think you can also remove the wiring from the part first before trying to move the locking ring which helps to not damage the wires. Once out, you merely replace the bulb like changing batteries, and then reassemble the whole thing again. It's much easier to pay the $20 to let someone else do it.
IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!! If you do it yourself, you really really REALLY have to make sure that the new bulb has all your fingerprints off it. In fact, don't ever touch the bulb itself. This is why.
Bulbs are halogen which burn extremely hot, that's why they throw a brighter light down the road. But they are sooooo hot, that they can burn extremely easily. Your fingers have grease on them, part of your body's stuff. Not talking about engine or motor grease, this is a natural oil on your fingers and hands. If this gets onto the bulb, the oils from your hands will actually begin to cook, or fry, just like french fries in cookng grease, and that will cause the bulb to burn out or even maybe explode. There is not enough room behind the device to just unplug and plug in the new lamp. I tried to remove the assembly by taking out the two screws at the top that hold it in place. This loosened the assembly, but would not allow me to remove it.How do i change a headlight on my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?

In my Ford Explorer (which is the Ford version of a Mountaineer, I think), I replaced several head lamps in the whole 5 years I had it. You have to go in through the back side of the headlight. You open the hood and twist the entire light assembly loose. Then you just unplug the bulb and replace it with a good one.

You will see the wires running to the light. there is a locking ring that holds the bulb on the light. Turn the locking ring counter clock wise.Depending on which light it is you may have to remove the battery to gain space to get your hand on the ring and the light socket. Once the ring is off the light socket with the bulb should be able to be pullet straight out. Then you'll just lift the little locking clip on the plug and pull the bulb and plug apart.. When you install the new bulb it is important that you don't touch the glass bulb. If you want to ensure a long bulb life you can take some rubbing alcohol and wipe the glass part of the bulb clean of anything that could be on it. Yes even a new bulb could use this little treatment to make the bulb life longer. Then install the bulb, the lock ring and then the plug. It is really way simpler than it sounds! Just make sure you remember which way the lock ring was facing when it came off. And you don't try to put it on backwards. It will just get you frustrated and you won't know why you can't get it back on.Does anyone know where I can find step by step instructions to change the headlight on my 2002 Grand Prix?

Having a TOUGH time changing my headlights of my 98 Civic. Is there a trick to it?
I know how to replace the headlights. The problem is, it's not as easy as it seems to be. The black plastic housing doesn't come off by just pinching either sides of it. Also, the bulb doesn't just, unplug, I'm trying so hard to yank it out, but it's stuck in there. After tears and bruises all over my hands, my burnt out headlights are still not replaced. My exgirlfriend also had a 98 civic, and i spent a half hour trying to get the damn bulb out. i have big hands, and they would not fit in there. I ended up showing my girlfriend how to do it. the bulb bracket needs to be turned towards the engine. and then pulled out.

Its not hard. Look at the passenger side light. You will see to metal clips holding the back cover to the headlight on. Once you pop those off you take the back cover off and take the light out that needs to be replaced. I'd suggest a Haynes manual (available at auto parts stores)
You might find it in the acr's owener's manual.
Basically you have to find the back of the headlamp assembly and then turn the part where the wire goes in CCW a little bit and pull the bulb out.
Sometimes the whole lamp socket turns, sometimes it's a dollar, but essentially it's a bayonet mount like a camera lens.
Clean the new bulb with alcohol and do not touch it - the oil from your finger will contaminate the glass and cause premature failure.How to change my headlight bulb?

Problem with changing the front headlights on Toyota Corolla (X reg)?
I wanted to change the headlights to the super brilliant ones from Halfords, however when the man looked at the car, he said the structure of the headlight was too hard to replace the lights.
As seen there were really small space for changing the bulbs, just wondering if there is anyone managed to change the bulbs themselves and know how to sort that out.Problem with changing the front headlights on Toyota Corolla (X reg)?
Further to the first answer, yes, it is usually just a spring steel clip holdingin the headlamp bulb. For best results, check the owners manual - they always tell you how to replace the bulbs. They can be a pain in the bum though, I had to take the battery out of my Honda Accord in order to put in brighter lamps. The Corolla, like most modern car, is a bugger to change headlamp bulbs on.
You need:
Patience
Strong fingers
Patience
Ability to work without being able to see what you're doing

ah its difficult if you dont take out the light totally in thoese corollas but think to take out the lights you will need to take off the bumper which makes this little sounding job does get big if your not slightly skilled with your hands and a rachect.

The man from halfords is coning you, the hardest part is putting the protective rubber vapour seal back in, you will need small hands, it is a fiddley job but easy to do, I have 80w for dipped and 120w for main beam

It' relatively easy...most parts stores will do it for you for free..if you do it yourself...do not touch the glass part of the bulb..

I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars. I need to replace the bulbs for my headlights. The Nissan manual says to take it to the dealer. How much would they charge for something like that? Is it easier to do it myself without breaking something else? It looks like you have to move certain pieces to get to the light?
