Like they say some of them will interchange and you can get the parts from a junk yard. For better looking and new body parts look up a company called certi-fit. They have quality parts and much better prices than OEM. There are also quite a few others Keystone, Goodmark etc. Maybe Google replacement body parts for vehicles or something like that.

You don't even need any tools. Open the hood and remove the two thumb screws on the headlight assembly. Remove the assembly then twist the bulb holder to remove. Remove and replace bulb. DO NOT TOUCH THE BULB WITH YOUR BARE HAND! The oil in your hand will greatly reduce the lifespan of the bulb. Swap with someone. Although I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, I assume you mean the European style housing. Although wouldn't UK and European housings be the same? A lot of people in the states swap out for JDM style housings which have a black housing. Or you can also take them apart and paint them. Look on ScoobyMods or Nasioc for instructions. There's also a company that will do this for you, but the name escapes me at the moment, so ask on Nasioc and someone will know.

When you look down from top where the headlight is when hoods popped -

there should be a plastic cover with (2) Push pins holding it in place remove push pins which will then remove plastic cover (claw end of hammer slow and steady can be used for ease of removal)

once covers removed there will be exposed (2) Tower clips which slide grip the top and pop them up (about 1/4 of an inch) at this point headlight assembly is completely free of chassis and should now have access to the rear of the assembly/Lamps with a 1/4 in turn the lamps will detach from the housing and allow you to easly change them out.Have a 1997 Chevy Malibu, can someone please tell me how to change the headlights.?
If you have the plastic cover over the headlights (which you should have) it is easily removed by remove the seven or so push-in retainers holding it in place. Then you will see two nylon retainers that you just lift up and it releases the headlamp assembly. Then wiggle it out. hope this helps.

Do not pull on the connector really hard.



If you pull on that connector really hard you might damage you head light capsule. (Your lights will move up or down when you hit bumps).



Do not force the connector out while it's still on the bulb.



There is a steel metal clip that holds the bulb in place on the light assembly. Press the clip in and to the side.



After you get the clip loose you can actually remove both of the ends and get the bulb out while it's still attached to the connector.



Once you get the bulb out of the head light assembly you can yank on the connector as hard as you want just don't do it while it's still in the light unless you want a $200+ head light.



After you get the bulb disconnected you need to put the steel retainer back in (Piece that holds the bulb in place) than you install the bulb, than you connect the connector and than you put on the weather proof cap which protects your lights form moisture.

Replacing headlamp bulbs

Handle a halogen headlamp bulb carefully and keep out of

children’s reach. Grasp the bulb only by its plastic base and do

not touch the glass. The oil from your hand could cause the bulb to

break the next time the headlamps are operated.

If the bulb is accidentally touched, it should be cleaned with rubbing

alcohol before being used.

To remove the headlamp bulb:

1. Make sure headlamp switch is in

OFF position, then lift hood and

open the hinged headlamp cover.

2. Release clip and disconnect the

electrical connector from the bulb.

3. Remove the bulb retaining ring by

rotating it counterclockwise (when

viewed from the rear) about 1/8

turn to free it from the bulb socket,

and slide the ring off the plastic

base. Keep the ring to retain the

new bulb.

4. Remove the old bulb from the lamp assembly by gently pulling it

straight back out of the lamp assembly.

What clip? I thought you would just reach behind the light and twist the locking ring counter clock wise and just pull the bulb out attached to the plug. Then just unplug it. Install new bulb....Be careful not to touch the glass on the bulb reinsert it and twist locking ring clock wise to lock it back in place.

I just changed it myself and it's relatively easy. Look for the gray part and twist it counterclockwise. Don't twist the light bulbs or the wires but almost the whole thing. It should come out easy. Be careful taking it out if it was recently on because it's going to be hot. If it's broken then never mind it and wiggle it out. Insert the new headlight bulbs but don't touch the glass because you will decrease the life of the bulb. Make sure you don't lose the rubber seal on the way in because that'll get some water in possibly burning it out or fogging up the headlight hence decreasing visibility. You need to open your hood. and behind each headlight, you'll find either, a cover that you'll have to twist off to get to the headlights, or, you'll find the bulbs right away. you'll have to twist the bulbs out once you get to it, and pull them out, and then unhook it from the plug. and replace them. You can buy bulbs for like $10 at any car accessory store, Pepboys, Autozone, CAP, NAPA, etc..

if you have gotten to the bulb already, you are more than halfway done with the job!



there is a ring that holds the bulb in place. if you are standing in front of the car, grab the ring and twist it counter clockwise (righty tighty lefty loosy), the bulb has a rubber seal aound the base the fits pretty snug in the headlight housing, so you may need to wiggle it loose a little before it will pop out. the socket is held onto the bulb with a clip, you will need to pry it back a bit, but not too far that it bends or breaks off. (i broke the tab off one of my headlight socket and had to splice a new socket...big pain in the butt)



make sure you do not touch the glass of the new bulb! the oils from your fingers could seriously shorten the lifespan of the bulb.

Owning VW's, but never a New Beetle, I will just speak in general terms. When you open up the hood of your car, you should be able to look down and see the back side of your headlights. There should be a thick wire shroud running to the back of the headlight which should go into a plug/screw looking attachment to the back of the light.

This should be what is holding in your headlight plug. There are a couple of ways that this could be fastened. It could be a twist on so that you have to just %26quot;unscrew%26quot; it to get it to come out. There might be several prongs so that the plug %26quot;snaps%26quot; into the back of the headlight.



Just take a look at the plug and see how it attaches to the back of the light and you should be able to figure it out. it's not that hard of a job to do.How do i change the headlights in my 2000 VW beetle?

You do have to have a Yahoo! account, (which I assume shouldn't be a problem LOL), and you need to register. The bulb replacement section starts on page 5-47. Better than me pasting the text, because it includes pictures too, which are not linkable.



Your bulb type (as listed on page 5-53) is 9007 LL, but any bulb with the 9007 prefix will fit. Autozone for example, lists 5 distinctly different bulbs that will all fit your car, at various prices (from $11 for standard to $35, each, or cheaper in pairs). Best thing to do would be to get the same type as your good one on the other side, or better yet, get a matched pair of whatever type you prefer.



If you're not familiar with Halogen capsule bulbs, I should warn you that the glass part should not be touched with the bare hand, as the oil from your fingers can make them crack/shatter when they are turned on, from the heat.



Also, read the warnings on the package and in the Owner's Manual about handling them. They have pressurized gas inside and can burst if handled improperly, so some safety glasses are a good idea.

See the gray piece sticking out of the back of the headlight housing that crooks over to a 90 degree angle? Thats the headlight. Give it a twist counter clockwise, about a 1/4 turn. You should feel it REALLY loosen up. Then, just pull it out. Plug the new one in, and turn it a 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place.

1. Remove the small Torx head screw and detach the park/turn signal light housing. (Screws are located between headlight and signal housing)



2. Remove headlight housing mounting bolts (there are 3 of them, 1 on the side and two on bottom)



3. Disconnect the electrical connector, unscrew the headlight bulb-retaining ring and withdraw the bulb.



4. Installation is the reverse of the romaval procedure, but handle the new bulb only with gloves or a clean rag.

The best way to do it, would be to soak the bolt areas with a lot of rust penetrant or WD-40 before attempting to remove the bolts. Bulbs--open the %26quot;access flaps%26quot; over each headlight, get your hand in there, and turn the socket clockwise, and pull the whole thing out.



Lights, I think you have to remove the entire plastic cover with the flaps, pop each plastic screw out with a screwdriver (they probably don't unscrew, this is the most stupid thing Ford uses) and the headlights are removable by unscrewing the nuts holding each headlight on. When you replace that plastic cover, use plastic push pins that are available at any auto parts store . They have a wide top of the pin and flanges. You can easily replace those in the future (they also will pop out and can't be used again).



You may want to have a mechanic do this, or go to a Lincoln dealer and ask if a mechanic will quickly explain to you what you have to do.How do i change my headlights on a 98 lincoln continental?
Very simple, open the hood, remove the front plastic above the lights by pulling toward the rear of the car. Remove the 2 retainers by pulling straight up( they will look like small squares) and the assembly will pull straight out the front.

There are 2 pins next to each headlight. Once you open the hood, they will be just on either side of the housings. Just rotate them out of their clips, and lift straight up as you wiggle the light. Ease the light straight forward, and then you can twist off the bulb retainers. Just remember not to touch the bulb with bare hands. Use a clean rag or paper towel to handle them. On each side of the rear of the light assembly is a tab with a sort of %26quot;L%26quot; shape. Pull each of these up and the entire light assembly will pull up and out. Around the back of the bulb mount is a flexible arm thingy, squeeze it in and twist, the bulb and mount will come out. I think the bulb just slides into the mount. We had two of these cars in our family and still have one. To reinstall, make sure you get the light assembly down into place and slide the L shaped tabs down and they will capture the ball shaped mounts and hold it in the proper place, no need to reaim. The clips you are looking for are just behind the headlamp assembly and will be remove by pulling UP, straight UP. They should be just infront of the metal crossmember that runs from fender to fender.

-Open the hood.

-Remove the front air deflector. (plastic cover over headlamp)

-Apply light pressure to the headlamp lens to hold the headlamp in place while disconnecting the retainers. (press against)

-Lift up the headlamp retainers to release. IMPORTANT: Note the location and position of the headlamp adjuster retainers and the locator tab.

-Remove the headlamp, pulling straight forward from car

-Rotate the headlamp bulb/socket(s) counterclockwise to release. Remove the headlamp bulb(s).



Installation just go back up the list.

One thing that someone forgot to mention, Your headlight is just a bulb, not a whole assembly like the older cars. The clips retain the bulb in a headlight socket and are located behind each headlight assembly under the hood. One more important thing you need to know. never, and i mean never touch any part of the glass bulb with your fingers. The oil from your skin will create a hot spot on the bulb and it will burn your new bulb out in a short period of time. If you go to an Auto Zone, you may find the bulb for about $9 and the counterperson can probably install it for free, or at least show you where it is located and how to replace it from there.

There's two bolts above the headlight on the radiator support you'll have to remove then the headlight assembly comes out. The headlight socket should just twist about a half turn then pull out from behind. There'll be a little plastic squeeze latch on the side of it that you'll have to depress to let it turn enough to remove it.

First of all.....take off your headlights...Just un-do the clips...and take it and wipe it out really good. Do this to both of them. Most likely its moisture built up.....coming in from some kind of leak in your grill. once you wipe it out and seal it real good. It shouldn't happen again...You cannot upgrade headlights as far as I know. Your electrical system will only allow whats right for THAT car. Nothing more. However, sealing it up should work once you clean the bulb out. To do this, under the hood on the battery side and the opposite side. where the headlights are...you have hologen bulbs that pop out quite easily. They are probably NOT your problem. You problem is in the frame of the headlight itsels. So you take out a couple bolts, maybe a little of your grill...and you remove the assemble and check it...See if you can tell how the air and moisture. If you can't fix it by sealing it...then replace the whole assemble. It would cost about 30.00 per light. Incluing the bulbs, so its really not that bad. Roughly...Don't go to Dodge to buy it or anything else. Go to Auto Zone, or ANYWHERE else....But NOT the dealer. When you put it back in...drive it up to a wall....using the screws that are on it...adjust your headlights accordingly. Using the screwdrive to adjust the lights to make sure you have them aimed correctly. THAT is very important..To be up to a wall...garage door...anything that you can see the lights images as you adjust them.

Ok, took all of 10 min. and that included going into the garage to get my socket set. Lights are held in with two 6 or 7 inch long bolts 9/32 socket to get them out. Unplug the sockets from back of light and swap them out.

Dodge intrepids are some of the worst with this problem. The sun breaks down the plastic in your headlight housing. The housing will have to be changed and they are not cheap. youll most likely have to go to a dealer and buy the product. Once you have the housing they are not super hard to figure out. The retainer wire is held in place on the bottom by a screw and clip on the bottom and is locked into a plastic clip on top. To remove the wire, push the wire down and towards the passenger side of the car, it will dislodge and you can then lower it to remove the bulb. Once the bulb has been changed, you want to replace the wire the same way to protect the plastic clip

The shop manual suggests reach thru the wheel opening for access. That means you have both front wheels removed the truck jacked up on stands and both plastic inner fenders removed. Washing under the fenders is reccomended before jumping into a lot of dirt and mud. With the inner fender removed you can turn the gray plastic covers to get at the light bulbs. Be sure those are properly reinstalled with the rubber seals when your done.

I know what your thinkin--there is no way that your gonna do this.Be calm,thats the first thing i thought too.The headlight housings are super easy to remove!! My grandma could do it,and it requires no tools.Here is what you do.

1.Open your hood and look on top of each headlight housing.There will be 2 slide locks on each headlight.They look like this I_I .

2.Grab each slide by this little handle I_I.

3.Pull straight up on each one.--you may need some pliers to help you.

4.After both slides have been removed,the entire headlight will slide out.No kidding!!

5.Replace your bulbs since you have room now.

6.Just replace in the reverse order.There is no adjusting to the headlights either when put back in.

7.You do not need to remove the battery!!

Removing the headlights are very time consuming. You have to remove all the center grill pieces and it's still tricky to pull the lights out. The passenger side light bulb is easy to do but the drivers side will be easier if you just removed the Battery. Then you just have to turn and pull out a cap on the back of the light, unclasp a little wire harness and pull out the bulb. If you just go for it, you will figure it out. It's really easy.Just take your time.

I'm not sure about the newer models but the 1999-2002 models use a standard H4 bulb. Something like the Sylvania Silverstars or the GE Nighthawks will give you a whiter light but they are still regular bulbs. Without going into it too much, HID lights work completely differently and don't give off light the same way. This means that the reflector in your bike is not designed for the way that HID light give off their light, so the beam pattern will be all wrong. You could probably get a kit if you really wanted to but I wouldn't recommend it. I think in most places it is illegal to put HID lights in something that wasn't designed for them.

There are two metric hex bolts that need to be removed from the top of the headlight frame under the hood. The entire plastic headlight will drop out in your hands. In the back of the headlight there is a large plastic ring that must be turned counter-clockwise before the bulb assembly can be removed.



It's important not to touch the glass part of the new bulb with your hands. Double-up a layer of Kleenex between our fingers and the bulb. The reason for this precautionary measure is the natural oil on your fingers will cause a hot-spot on the bulb when it illuminates causing it to fail.



Very carefully wipe *silicone ignition grease on the orange colored O ring at the base of the bulb socket. Silicone grease displaces moisture inside the car electrical socket that plugs into the bulb socket. I just replaced low beam/passenger side, had to take off the whole assembly to do it. Once I got those two looong bolts out, I couldn't get them back in. You can't see the hole they go into. I finally gave up. Also the bulb connector in there was L shaped whereas the replacement bulb was straight

open you hood



there is a rubber grommet the size of a coaster thats where the bulb is located. unplug the plug (squeeze the side of the plug and it should slide right off)



remove the grommet. just pull if off away from the headlight.



the bulb is secured by a spring clip push the clip towards the front of the car and move it to one side to get it unhooked from the headlight housing.



pull the head light bulb out. replace with new head light bulb (MAKE SURE NOT TO TOUCH THE GLASS OF THE NEW BULB)



secure the bulb with the spring clip.



put rubber grommet back on



plug the harness back on the bulb.

Look in Chiltons Auto Repair Manual at the library. You can buy Chiltons for under $20 at parts stores. It will tell you how to do this and many other maintenance proceedures. If you don't want to do the job yourself, get it done at the cheapest shop you can find- it's not rocket science. The dealer will charge you their rate, about $100/hr and too much for the part, probably 2 or 3 times what it costs at the run of the mill auto parts store like Pep Boys or Kragen. I've even seen them for sale at Walgreens- cheap. Ford tried to charge my sister $60 to change a headlight. I'm glad she asked me about it. The Big Three want a bailout? HAH!



When I'm not sure I can do a car job, I go to the junkyard and try on a wreck. I learn how there, the next guy who needs the parts finds them already loose, but in place because I put them back, but not tight, and all the parts are there if I don't need to buy them. I've changed headlights out of many cars in my life, but can't figure out how to gain access on this one. I obviously don't want to break anything to gain access, but I am sure it is a simple procedure to do it correctly. Normally, I have gone in through the back of the light fixture (through the engine compartment), but there is no access via this route. I have a 2000 Beetle and had to have both headlights replaced. Both times I took to local Firestone and they couldn't do it so ended up taking to VW dealer. They say they have a special tool - it only took them about 5 minutes to do it, around $2.50 for the bulb and yes - $70 labor.

I would imagine the switch knob can be pulled out by pushing a release button on top of the light switch controller. It's just behind the dash. You'll have to reach up and find it.



Once the handle AND SHAFT pull out, you can then remove the retaining knob from the front of the dash where the handle and shaft came out.



After you unscrew the retaining knob, the light switch unit should come right out. Carefully unplug the wire harness.



To install the new one, just repeat the steps in reverse. NOTE: You can push the knob and shaft back in without having to push the release button. The shaft will automatically lock in.How hard is it to change headlight switch on a 77 corvette?

Not to hard. Remove the windshield washer filler pipe and coolant resv twist counter clock wise and pull up. Reach in and turn the gray plastic cover that covers the bulb passenger side. Drivers side you remove the air filter intake pipe across the radatior and take off the air flow meter pipe and remove the air filter box by lifting straight up. then access the gray plastic cover. Mechanic tip, mark that gray cover with a sharpe pen closed position and open posistion. That way you know where it will close properly and where you reinstall it. The bulb has a red and black wire red to the bulb and black to a little metal ground under the metal spring that holds the bulb and ground to the reflector. Do not touch the glass on the new bulb. If all the head lights went out at the same time then it probably is just a fuse. If just one light is out then it is probably the bulb. the fuse box is under the dash on the drivers side, the fuse will be marked. Just pull out the fuse and look at it, if it is blown then you will be able to see it. If you go to Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts they will replace the bulb for you.

I think I got one loose with pliers and had to leave the other fastened. They are so tight it isn't funny. At the back of the headlight you will see a round plastic cover, turn this and pull back.



You will then see a spring clip holding the globes in, unclip it, pull out the globe and replace, replace the same way as you removed it.



I would advise you to remove the battery and air cleaner box so you can get a good look at the clip, as its a bit unusual as its hinged.

Don't touch the new globes with your bare hands! The oil from your skin will make them blow prematurely, use a clean rag or pair of gloves.

Otherwise, you just lift your hood, locate the plugs directly behind each headlight. You will probably have to turn (or push in and turn) the plug and pull out the current bulb. Then do the reverse, and you should be done. As long as you can reach the plugs (i.e. sometimes the battery or some other item is in the way), it should only take you 5-10 minutes to replace both bulbs.

Not sure...but, look to see if there are two (for each light) very long screws holding the entire headlight assembly in place. If so, remove both screws and the head light assembly should come right out...making the bulb more accessible to replace.



If not, check with your local GM dealer...or at least a reputable auto parts store. Someone should be able to assist you with your need.
